Getting home safely; it’s something we take for granted, and that’s just fine.
We’re not ones to fear-monger, and making roads safer one safety-system at a time is how we’re able to take our minds off the dangers of driving.
Still, on average, around 40,000 people a year die from crashes, and approximately another 3.3 million are seriously injured.
2021 hasn’t been kind to drivers either, with 21,450 people (a 17% increase from 2019) dead from motor vehicle accidents, according to early National Safety Council estimates.
So, it’s easy to empathize with these responses to a recent survey...

Stemming from a change in driving habits and a post-lockdown increase in drivers on the road, vehicular crashes in the first quarter of 2021 were the highest since around 2009.
It’s thought that the emptier roads during the lockdowns encouraged drivers to drive faster and pay less attention, two behaviors which seem to have followed drivers to the more crowded highways of 2021.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, around 8,730 people died in vehicle crashes in the first 3 months of 2021--an increase of 10.5% from the same period of time in 2020 (which saw 7900 fatalities)....

Whether it’s decked-out dashboards or super-sensitive safety sensors, we’re always on the lookout for standouts in vehicle-innovation.
Since we like to stay grounded with our lists (because everyone should be able to be safe), we’ve picked some of the more popular vehicles on the road to highlight:
The 2021 model of the popular compact sedan not only comes with a slew of sleek lines on its exterior, but a souped-up 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a 10.2-inch...

We all know the usual suspects when it comes to raising your vehicle’s insurance premium: a teen driver, location, accident history, car type...
There are, however, some more unusual and less thought-of factors that we either take for granted or just ignore:
Marital Status
This makes sense, as not only married couples divide driving time between themselves, but tend to be a little more careful, as they’re likely to be carrying precious cargo. Stats have shown that married people are involved in up to 50% fewer accidents, compared to single drivers. The lowest risk group? Married, middle-aged...

There’s “safe” according to the car companies, and then there’s safe according to the IHHS.
Through unbiased scientific research and testing, IHHS ratings factor in crashworthiness, cab safety, effectiveness of headlights and sensors, braking, lane departure systems, and collision warning systems.
Being the safety-centric company that we are, we love nerding out about which 2021 vehicles made top picks in their respective categories, so here goes 5 of the best:
SMALL 4-DOOR SEDANS
Reintroduced in 2019 after a 4-year absence, the Insight’s standard Honda Sensing tech...

It’s back-to-school season again, and that means that high school and college-aged drivers will be taking to the road in droves.
The fact is, teens aged 16-19 are at higher risk for motor vehicle crashes than any other age group, and are nearly 3 times as likely to be in a fatal crash than those aged 20 or older. Between inexperience, lower rates of seat belt usage, phone distractions, speeding, and alcohol/drug usage, parents need all the help they can get when trying to keep them out of harm’s way.
While you can’t be with them in the passenger’s seat all the time, you can get them the best...

We know it’s a completely biased statement coming from us, but we’ll reiterate it every chance we get: visibility is vital, and we hang our hat on improving it whenever possible!
Although safety systems were recently made standard by most makers, many vehicles feature overly thick pillars, small windows, bad sightlines, and/or high dashboards--the main offenders when it comes to hindering visibility. Here are a few:
Porsche Boxster
In the land of compact roadsters, the Boxster makes drivers of all heights struggle with visibility, as the roof hinders sight when it isn't in convertible mode...

How exactly are 360° bird's eye camera views made?
No, there’s not a downward-facing camera hanging from a 20-foot pole attached to the top of cars with a 360° system.
There’s neither a drone always hovering above your vehicle, nor a satellite tracking you from 12,000 miles up. So exactly how is the monitor on your dash getting that perfect vehicle overview?
Though every other new make and model vehicle is being released with a 360 camera, from the Camry to the Silverado, it’s probably not clear to the average person how those signature birds-eye images are actually produced.
It’s a little bit...

The results of our search for the “deadliest vehicles” on the road today in America came as no shock to us.
In fact, there’s a high chance that the person reading (and writing) this has either driven or owned one of the vehicles on the list.
In no particular order, we’ve singled out some of the deadliest in each of the vehicle categories, from a study done by Value Penguin.
Some of these might ring very close to home, as their popularity definitely plays a part in the high accident rates just by default .
- Ford F Series
Ford trucks like the F-150 and its family of pickups are among the most popular...

IT’S A GAME CHANGER.
Ready or not, the future of the trucking industry may have just seismically shifted!
In what’s possibly the greatest single milestone achieved by a self-driving truck thus far, California’s autonomous driving technology company Plus.ai just completed the very first demonstration of Level 4 truck automation on a highway.
For reference, the levels of vehicle automation range from 0-6, with 0 being no automation at all (most vehicles on the road today), 2 being ADAS (vehicle steers & accelerates with a human monitor who’s able to take control anytime), and 5 being full on...

Many of us may not have a choice in the matter, but the rest of us will want to stay far from driving down any of these highways by the end of this article.
While there can be any number of qualifiers to base this list on, a death count is usually the most poignant indicator of danger.
That being said, these are the worst offenders:
- Interstate 4 In Tampa, FL
The notoriously dangerous I-4 between Tampa and Daytona Beach is the deadliest in the nation according to many lists, with 1.2 deaths per mile for its 130-mile-long stretch. The deadliest city along this highway? Orlando, home to the...

Chances are, you’ve turned on the news in recent weeks only to be bombarded with stories about “record breaking” weather events.
Whether it be flooding, massive thunderstorms, floods, or extreme heat, it seems that extreme weather conditions have been ramping up lately (and just think, hurricane season isn’t even here yet!).
Here at Rear View Safety, we believe it’s better to be prepared for Mother Nature than to be surprised by her, and these products are just some of the ways we try to plan ahead when it comes to facing the elements and the havoc they wreak.

This July 4th feels different. Americans will be hitting the highways in droves, and who can blame them? After the pandemic, the shutdowns, and a year of limited travel, this year, Independence Day will feel just a bit more...free.
Likewise, the most dangerous weekend of the year will probably be even deadlier in 2021, as we celebrate our re-found freedom. A reopening nation, drinking, more vehicles on the roads, and distractions in the form of fireworks and cell phones make the conditions even more hazardous than usual.
While we do recommend the usual safety tips (don’t drink and drive,...

We’re starting off with function over form. If there ever was a true calling for your pickup truck, attaching a hitch for hauling heavy stuff would be it. In fact, some trucks are built with this purpose specifically...

Name one father who doesn’t love a good gadget for their truck. I’ll wait.
You can’t!
The problem is choosing which gadget to get him, seeing as how the internet is teeming with all kinds of cool tech nowadays.
So we’ve gone ahead and narrowed down the list to what we think are some of the coolest pieces of tech that Dad will actually put to use and may even increase the lifespan of his truck (and Dad):

It’s 2021, and if Dad doesn’t have one of these for his truck yet, you need to get him one ASAP. Though a seemingly small gesture, it says “I care for...

Though it’s been one of the hottest tech stories over the past few recent years, one recent headline in particular is making autonomous-driving technology much more of a reality than it’s ever been.
The TuSimple company’s self-driving semi-truck just completed a 951 mile route, delivering watermelons, from Arizona to Oklahoma in just 14 hours and 6 minutes--a route which would usually take around 24 hours with a human driver.
To anyone reading this, it sounds like it spells disaster for the future of professional truck drivers going forward. After all, who doesn’t want their watermelon a full...
