Verizon has acquired Telogis, a transportation software provider that offers solutions for mobile workforces, as well as navigation, routing and compliance software. Most of the company’s software is sold to fleet operators. Telogis software is already being used by car companies including Ford and Volvo, as well as by tech powerhouses Apple and AT&T.

While dealers selling new cars are prohibited from selling vehicles with known defects, rental companies are not legally mandated to do the same. Until now. Part of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015 requires rental car agencies with fleets over 35 vehicles to fix any and all open safety defects. Pressure is on to better protect rear passengers, as ride-sharing programs such as Uber and Lyft are putting more people in the backseat.
