Now that it's nicer outside I can finally start riding my bike more. Though it's been a bit rainy here (April showers), yesterday it was perfect. I was riding to the supermarket when I saw a car accident.
Here's what happened. A cyclist ran into a car that was turning left at a stop sign. The cyclist had stopped for the stop sign (it was a four way stop) and had the right of way. They weren't seriously hurt, but a bit scraped up and definitely in shock. The driver of the car stopped and was very apologetic. The cyclist was very upset, but calmed down a bit when he realized the other driver was...

5. So far this year 5 children have lost their lives due to vehicular heatstroke. According to Kids and Cars, 39 children passed away from vehicular heatstroke in 2016. The average number of child fatalities from vehicular heatstroke per year since 1998 is 37. That’s one death every 9 days.
This is an epidemic, these are not isolated events.
I’m at a loss for words. This can happen to anyone. The only thing on my mind are my nieces and nephews, my friends’ children, and my future children. We can stop this.
Kids and Cars have announced April 26th as National Child Vehicular Heatstroke Awareness...

Kelly, my fiance, and I got rid of our cars shortly after we moved to New York. I really miss driving everyday. One of my brothers also lives in the city and we trade babysitting for occasionally using his car for groceries or for a weekend trip to the beach. It's a great trade. Recently he took a road trip with his family to Ohio. He took it into his local shop to get checked out before the trip. It's an old but reliable car, so he wanted to make sure everything was alright before the long drive. His car was fine, but he left the shop with peace of mind.

I think it's safe to say that most of us have driven a little over the speed limit at some point in our lives. In my younger, dumber years, I know I have. I have the tickets and upset parents to prove it. But how often do you hear of a police chief issuing himself a speeding ticket? That's what happened last week in Oklahoma.
Sperry, Oklahoma Police Chief Justin Burch issued himself a $300 ticket after a dash cam video showed him driving 80 mph in a 50 mph zone. He held himself accountable and apologized on the department's Facebook page.

It's here. It's finally here! Spring (arguably the best season) is here. The weather in New York is warm enough for me to ride my bike to work and the city is very much alive. The parks and playgrounds are full of children (and adults!) enjoying the great weather. Of course, more sun means more people outside. Check out these Spring safety tips while you enjoy the weather.
Spring Safety
Let's start with the basics. Wear your seat belt, don't drink and drive, drive defensively, put your cell phone away, and get plenty of rest before getting behind the wheel. You knew that already. It's good to...
