6 Off-Roading Basics So You Can Rough It

For many, the off-roading season never stopped, but for newbies, it’s a new adventure that will require much prep.

Though your vehicle (no matter how many wheels it has) may be a tough cookie, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take every safety precaution necessary before hitting the road.

Here are 6 essential items you should check off your list before you head out:

Navigation Tools

Despite the existence of GPS apps, you’d need to take into account that the more off-the-grid you go, the less chance you’ll have phone service for apps to work. Standalone GPS devices are now advanced to the point where they can operate anywhere and even include smaller trails. At the end of the day though, the time-tested “compass and paper map” combo is a stalwart when it comes to navigation.

Flood light

Many times, being offroad means you’ll have to travel to more untamed and unlit areas to get your rugged fix. A good floodlight not only makes your driving safer by illuminating dark roads and objects in the near distance, but can also help you sleep better in your campsite.

Spare Tire Kit

It goes without saying that a spare tire and the accompanying tool kit are necessary not just for off-roading, but anytime you’re behind the wheel of your vehicle.

Battery Protection/Battery Jump Starter

Here’s another obvious one. The more off-grid you are, the less likely you’re able to call someone to help start your vehicle back up. Having a good jump starter is a must, whether you’re off-road or not. Go one step further and get a battery protector that shuts off after a predetermined time to avoid excess drainage.

Waterproof, Shockproof, & Night-Vision Enabled Camera System

You’ll need a backup camera system for the low-light situations, wet weather, and tumultuous terrains when off-roading. The RVS flagship system covers all these bases. With a completely waterproof and dustproof IP69K rating, 20G vibration rating, 100G shock rating, and 50 ft of night vision capability for its 130° backup camera, it’ll be the most rugged thing on your vehicle beside your tires.

Camera Washer

The good set of eyes in our flagship camera system needs a good cleaner, and this cleaning kit helps wash off the mud, dirt, and whatever else that will get caked up on those lenses.
