Few businesses incur daily risks as high as those of a commercial truck fleet.
With some of the largest blind spots on the road, most hazardous cargo, and drivers who spend more time behind the wheel than passenger-vehicle drivers, higher rates of fatal accidents make sense.
Though it’s concerning, it’s no surprise that stats (courtesy of Policy Advice) as dismal as these exist:
- A large truck was somehow involved in around 74% of fatal passenger car accidents
- Passenger-vehicle occupants are 68% of all truck accident fatalities
- In 4% of the large trucks involved in fatal collisions, hazardous...

Rear View Safety prides itself on improving safety for everyone on the road, including those in front of the wheel: pedestrians.
While in-traffic deaths just had their worst 1st quarter since the early 2000s, the rate of pedestrians hit by vehicles hasn't fared much better.
In fact, pedestrian deaths rose during 2020, hitting an average of 18 a day and 65,000 in total. The annual total in 2021 may be even higher, once the calculations are said and done.
The increased foot traffic during the pandemic shut-downs was surely a contributing factor. The lack of proper safety infrastructure and...

Few things are more uncontrollable than the behaviors of other drivers.
Whether it’s a hit-and-run, theft, or a violent encounter, the safety of you and your passengers can be put at risk within seconds.
Due to their random nature, many of these types of incidents are hard to prevent, but dashcams offer a way to recall, record, and recover from damages incurred (financially/legally.)
Here are 3 instances that make us grateful for the dashcams, courtesy of Blackvue.

The NHTSA just released its traffic fatality estimates for the first quarter of 2022 and they’re high. Really high.
According to the report, the first quarter of 2022 is the 7th quarter in a row where driving deaths have risen, with 9,560 fatalities this year compared to 8,935 during the same period in 2021.
This 7% increase marked the highest first quarter levels since 2002.
Naturally, these stats don’t stand alone, as drivers spent more time behind the wheel (up 5.9% to 40.2 billion miles). The number of fatalities per million miles traveled in this same period of time was 1.27 (up from...

There’s no state pride in making this list.
You can’t have proper road safety without proper roads, and in these states, road conditions are perpetually bad, poorly fixed, and pricey for inhabitants.
We’ve compiled a short countdown of the ten worst road conditions by state (courtesy of Consumer Affairs), measured by a combination of factors that include: their own resident’s average rankings (out of 10), money spent by drivers per year due to driving on those roads, and percentage of roads with poor pavement (urban or rural, depending on state).

It’s no secret that fuel prices are hitting some of the highest levels EVER (along with most everything else).
While American households are getting hit at the pump, commercial fleets are feeling it hard, as high costs are cutting into profit margins.
It doesn’t need to bring businesses to a halt. There are some sound strategies on cutting down on fuel costs and they all involve tracking or keeping tabs on driver activities, something a good Fleet Manager is already doing.
These 5 strategies make any commercial fleet operation run a bit more efficiently:
- Tracking engine idling lets a Fleet...

According to First Street Foundation, 23% of all roads in the U.S. are at high risk of flooding (that's almost 2 million miles combined) and becoming untraversable.
With low elevation, proximity to coastal regions, and increased extreme weather instances, drivers in the states below are at much higher risk of experiencing flood damage to their homes and vehicles.
In fact, 85% of the most at-risk counties in the U.S. are in these 4 states alone:
- Florida
- Kentucky
- West Virginia
- Louisiana, with 8 of the top 20 most at-risk counties and the most at-risk county in the U.S., Cameron Parish

If there’s one category in vehicle tech that’s continually evolving, it’s that of the wireless backup camera system–as it should be!
After all, commercial fleets would directly benefit from these features that are unique to wire-free tech:
- Preserved Vehicle Surfaces
Running wires means potentially risking exposure or damage to sensitive internal systems, like those in refrigerated trucks. Using wireless technology minimizes this risk.
- Easier Scaling Up
The main feature (being wire-free) means you can add and remove cameras quickly without installing and running wires. When upgrading...

Recently Ford had a recall of around 350,000 vehicles for being susceptible to catching fire under the hoods, 310,00 trucks with defective airbags, and 464 electric Mustang Mach-E SUVs with software malfunctions.
As far-reaching as that sounds, it pales in comparison to some of the more notorious recalls in automaker history–some of which took many lives.
Here are four of the worst in history:
Ford, Firestone, and Failing Tires
In 2000, Firestone recalled 14.4 million tires on Ford vehicles after an investigation revealed almost a whole decade of thread separation and blowouts. This recall came...

The Dangers of Fog
You can’t drive around it, you can barely drive through it, and you’d better take it slow when you’re in it.
It’s one of the most formidable obstacles to drivers’ visibility: fog.
While it affects most of us occasionally and in short spurts, some places in North America experience it as regularly occurring weather.
These are the 5 places in North America where the fog is dense and regularly occurring, according to Farmer’s Almanac:
1) Grand Banks, Newfoundland
It’s where a cold current from the north (The Labrador) meets with the warmer Gulf Stream from the south and produces...

For many, the off-roading season never stopped, but for newbies, it’s a new adventure that will require much prep.
Though your vehicle (no matter how many wheels it has) may be a tough cookie, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take every safety precaution necessary before hitting the road.
Here are 6 essential items you should check off your list before you head out:
Navigation Tools
Despite the existence of GPS apps, you’d need to take into account that the more off-the-grid you go, the less chance you’ll have phone service for apps to work. Standalone GPS devices are now advanced to the...

Moms are the driving forces of most families in America, and we mean that in both the literal and figurative senses.
From driving the kids to school, to extracurricular activities, to playdates (just to name a few errands), moms can log hundreds of hours a month behind the wheel.
The least we can do is keep them happy, comfy, and safe while they do so.
Here are 4 gifts that check all those boxes:
Driving all day takes a toll on the feet and legs, so a pair of soft driving shoes is a must. Not only do they check the “comfy” box, but the right pair applies good grip to pedals,...

Though necessary pieces of infrastructure, many bridges have features that are just plain dangerous to drivers, especially novices.
Here are 4 of the scariest:
Fuller Warren Bridge
While it does run through one of the more accident-prone highways in America, the I-95, the bridge itself saw over 280 accidents in one year (2015). With 150,000 cars a day passing through it, a death approximately every two miles, and around 48 people dying every year, the busy bridge is definitely one to proceed with caution on.

We are all subject to the elements–no matter how much preparedness, gear, and equipment we arm ourselves with, Mother Nature’s randomness trumps all.
When it comes to driving, the conditions presented by extreme weather or temps dictate how we’ll fare–and sometimes things get ugly.
With that said, here are 4 of the worst pile-ups caused by the elements in recent American history:

Hundreds of millions of years of the San Juan river winding 6 miles through this deep canyon gives this rather small park some grand views, not to mention proximity to Natural Bridges National Monument, Valley of the Gods, and Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.

The U.S. has some of the most beautifully scenic drives in the world, and that’s a fact. A long drive through certain regions of the U.S. can transport you to land's most untamable terrains.

It’s not always cut and dry.
The decision to invest in a potentially life-saving system might seem intuitive to many, but there are some who are either on the fence about it or just under-informed.
Use this quick checklist to know where you stand:
- Was Your Car Built Before 2018?
The older your vehicle, the higher the chances are that it lacks a backup camera system, since the law requiring it in all new vehicles was passed just 4 years ago. If you answered yes, proceed further on.
- Do You Have Any Previous Accidents On Your Record?

We’re going back in time.
We’re traveling back to the days when automakers prioritized sales, competing with Asia for market share, and gimmicks over safety. Standards weren’t nearly as high as today, and legislation was lacking.

These 5 vehicles are arguably the most unsafe cars of all time:
