According to recent data from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, 5,190 fatal work injuries occurred in 2016. This is a 7% increase from 2015. This is the third year in a row this number has increased.
At 40% (2,083) of the fatalities, transportation accidents remained the most common cause of work deaths. Violence committed by people or animals and On-the-job overdoses from non-medical use of drugs or alcohol are also high on the list.

In response to this data, The National Safety Council is urging employers to take a systematic approach to this problem.

Tesla's "Santa Mode" Easter egg is the latest holiday surprise from Elon Musk. Press the reindeer button to change your car into Santa's sleigh on the dash display. Other cars on the road become reindeer.
Santa mode also plays Chuck Berry's version of "Run Rudolph Run" when it first turns on. Turn signals will signal sleigh bells. The road ahead will appear icy fro cars with autopilot.
The feature can also be voice-activated. Press and hold the car's voice command button and say "Ho Ho Ho".

A California state law effective July 2018 will require drivers and passengers of commercial buses, such as Greyhound, to wear seat belts. The law includes a $20 fine for the first violation and a $50 fine for the next. Parents are held responsible for making sure children under 16 are buckled up. The U.S Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) 2017 grants have been announced. The company has awarded over $70 million in grants to educational institutes as well as individual states to strengthen commercial motor vehicle safety.

Oregon's new distracted driving law goes into effect Oct. 1st. House Bill 2597 passed earlier this year, and includes a stricter ban on phone use while driving with higher fines that quickly escalate.

Closing Loopholes
The new law fixes a loophole in a 2009 version, which bans calls/texting, but includes nothing about navigation apps or games. The new version prohibits drives from using ANY phone function that requires holding or touching. You can use the phone to activate a preprogrammed route, but not to type in an address.

We had a great time at Buscon 2017 last week in Indianapolis, IN. We were proud to display our new RVS-77550 360+ Bird's Eye View System with Lane Changing Cameras.
