'Stop on Red' for National School Bus Safety Week
"#Stoponred" is the theme of this years National School Bus Safety Week, October 16-20. The theme was chosen from the winner of a safety poster the year before.
The week is for parents, students, motorists, school administrators, school bus operators to discuss the importance of bus safety. School districts throughout the country and also Canada observe National School Bus Safety Week the third full week of October every year.
In addition to events on the subject, many states are cracking down on drivers who don't "#StopOnRed." From 2014-2016, over 4,000 drivers in Ohio were convicted of failing to stop for a stopped school bus, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Texas Highway Patrol has issued 1,1000 citations and 573 warnings for failing to stop for a stopped school bus.
