This app uses recorded messages from the driver's friends and family to deter distracted driving. These audio messages combined with an image of a wagging finger keep the driver focused on the road.

Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) announced a bill that would require automatic notifications of driver violations to school districts as well as school bus companies within 24 hours. This would allow the organizations to take faster actions. The bill was written in response to New Jersey crash in May that killed a teacher and a student.

I’ve written about my own personal experience with the dangers of drowsy driving before. It is a dangerous epidemic that cannot be ignored. After analyzing dashboard videos from 700 accidents, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 9.5% of all crashes involved drowsy driving, based on the portion of time the operators' eyes were closed in the minutes before a crash.
