Three YouTubers Who Converted Schoolbuses Into Amazing Homes

Home is where you hang your hat.

For Skoolie Youtubers, their school bus conversions provide exactly that--homes, but with an inventive, off-the-grid twist!

Their channels offer hours of awesome content about their daily lives, routines, and most interestingly, the work that went into building those conversions.

These are some of the Skoolie YouTubers we enjoy watching when we feel like going off-grid (without leaving our desks).

 Mobile Dwellings / Gilligan Phantom

A favorite YouTuber of ours here at RVS, Justin is a former firefighter who converted a school bus into a home (Gilligan Phantom), and is now traveling full time around the country in his Skoolie. The adventures with his little family, the time-lapse conversion videos, and the cool tech he often highlights are always something to look forward to. We’re definitely anticipating him dipping his toes into the next conversion project!

Living Zeal

Living Zeal is the Youtube channel of a power-couple in the Skoolie world: Chad and Zaynah Miner, who have converted an astounding 7 school buses into homes and spend their time documenting their lifestyle honestly, with mistakes included.

Ian Robinson

Following the travels of Ian and V., two entrepreneurs living the nomadic lifestyle since 2010, their YouTube channel spans the globe. In addition to their YouTube channel, they host their own podcast channel and regularly school us on Skoolies, DIY projects, and even CrossFit.

While we’re admiring their ingenuity, we also appreciate the immense amount of time and work these builders put into these projects. Living in converted school buses comes with its fair share of logistical and technical issues, but employing the right tech can help overcome those--after all a school bus home is still a school bus, and should be treated as such.

We often think of backup cameras, 360 systems, and even driver fatigue systems as vital pieces of equipment for heavy freight trucks, but here at RVS, we think they’d be just as vital on a school-bus home. Maybe even more so!

After all, we’re talking about a permanent home-on-wheels carrying the most precious cargo of all here...
