10 Most Stolen Vehicles On The Road

Dude, Where's My Car?!

It’s been a perfect storm if you’re a car thief: supply chain issues stemming from 2020’s lockdowns combined with inflation have increased car values AND theft rates in the last two years.

Reported thefts were up by 6% in 2021 from the previous year, and up 17% from 2019!

Whether for resale in the international black market, for their catalytic converters, or for their spare-part resale values, it seems some makes and models have perennial targets on their backs.

These 10 were the most stolen in 2021, according to the NICB:

1. 2004 Chevrolet Pick-Up (Full Size) = 48,206 total thefts

2. 2006 Ford Pick-Up (Full Size) = 47,999

3. 2000 Honda Civic = 31,673

4. 1997 Honda Accord = 30,274

5. 2007 Toyota Camry = 17,270

6. 2005 GMC Pick-Up (Full Size) = 15,599

7. 2020 Nissan Altima = 14,108

8. 2000 Honda CR-V = 13,308

9. 2018 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee = 13,210

10. 2020 Toyota Corolla = 12,927

It’s a common misconception that luxury vehicles are better targets, but this lineup proves that the ubiquity of the most popular cars on the road drives both supply and demand for their parts.

Joining luxury models in their absence on this list are EVs, which don’t have the supply, demand, or catalytic converters to qualify.

How To Fight Theft

Practicing good safety and security habits are essential, but investing in equipment like dash cams for your car or Mobile DVRs for your commercial vehicles with GPS tracking capabilities can give that extra security boost to prevent boosting.
