Safety begins at home

A few days ago I saw the aftermath of a major accident right outside of Rear View Safety's main office in Brooklyn. A car hit a cyclist who was riding across Atlantic, a busy street.

There was a large crowd of people and emergency vehicles all around. I asked the crowd what had happened. The cyclist wasn't wearing a helmet and had run a red light and was struck by an SUV. I watched the paramedics place him on a stretcher and drive away. I read later that he died from the injuries.

Who Is To Blame?

The fault lies on the cyclist. He ran a light, and paid the ultimate price for it. However, the driver of the car now has to live with the fact they struck someone with car. There are no winners in this tragic accident.

Safety Begins At Home

I ride a bike to work nearly every day. I have to cross Atlantic to get to Rear View Safety. Though I always wear a helmet and ride very defensively, this kind of accident could happen to me. Seeing this accident outside my door reaffirmed what i've always known, safety begins at home. We need to do all we can to protect each other, and utilize safety technology to prevent accidents.
