Vision Zero is Working

Thanks to Vision Zero, New York pedestrian deaths are the lowest since 1910. This is the first year the city began recording these deaths.

101 pedestrians were killed by vehicles in 2017, while 184 pedestrians were killed in 2013 when the initiative was first proposed by then candidate Mayor De Blasio.

Steps taken for Vision Zero include reducing speed limits, changing street corners, and adjusting cross signals.

“The lower speed limit, increased enforcement and safer street designs are all building on each other to keep New Yorkers safe,” Mr. de Blasio said in a statement. “Now we must deepen this work. Not even a single tragedy on our streets is acceptable.”
