School Bus Backup Camera Systems & How They Can Save a Child's Life

Due to their sheer size and the fact that they interact almost exclusively with children, school buses are considered by many to be some of the most dangerous vehicles on the road today. This doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the driver of the bus itself, but with other vehicles that may choose to ignore flashing lights and other warning signs when children are entering or exiting the bus. A number of states have gone as far as to allow the use of a backup camera system for school buses that will record other drivers as they "fly by" or "pass by" a stopped bus so that the appropriate legal action can be taken.

RVS -View-IProducts like the RVS-View-I Dual Lens Dash Camera for Interior and Exterior Recording go a long way towards making the roads safer and saving the lives of children at the same time. With exterior recording capabilities, a bus driver can now review the area immediately behind the vehicle - which he or she usually does not have 100% visibility of - before allowing kids to depart. The system also records audio and video both inside and outside of the bus, providing all of the information that would be needed to take action against drivers who ignore the rules of the road and endanger the lives of children while doing so.

When it comes to selecting an MDVR system for use in any environment, there are three main types that you'll need to concern yourself with. A basic system usually includes advanced recording and GPS capabilities, which means that not only are you recording video information from the attached cameras, but you can also pinpoint the exact speed and location of the vehicle at the time that footage was recorded. The second main type adds in Wi-Fi functionality, allowing the MDVR to archive recorded information for safe keeping whenever a wireless Internet connection is nearby.

The third main type adds in 3G functionality, which is a method of connecting to the Internet that is almost identical to the type a standard cell phone uses on a regular basis. Instead of being required to wait until a Wi-Fi connection is present, the system can upload and archive footage at all times. This also includes the added benefit of being able to utilize the GPS functionality of the device regardless of the presence of a Wi-Fi network.

In all of these configurations, up to four cameras can be connected to it with any monitor - allowing for a truly seamless solution that provides a higher level of road safety and looks great at the same time.

Organizations like Rear View Safety have long taken steps to provide technological solutions that not only make the roads safer for people like pedestrians, children and cyclists, but also for the drivers themselves. The RVS-View-I and MDVR recording systems are just a few of the many examples of this line of thinking at work.
