Go RVing!

Happy New Year! It's finally cold in New York. The kind of cold where you carefully layer clothing and speed walk to the bus to avoid the brisk morning wind. It makes me want to go RVing more than ever.

Though I spent a lot of time camping and in the outdoors growing up, I've never been RVing. Learning about RV culture has been like learning a new language, exciting and challenging. Many of our systems are made for RVs, but the culture is a whole new world. It's very exciting discovering terms like toads, dry weight, and full-timing.

Toad: Vehicle towed behind a motor home

Dry Weight:  The weight of an RV without freshwater, fuel, propane gas, or passengers

Full-timing: Living in an RV year round, or at least a majority of the year

Everyone I've spoken to in the RV culture have been very helpful and inviting. Countless blogs, magazines and forums answer any and every question you could ever have. Living in the information age is amazing.

On The Road Again (For the First Time)

There's only so much reading you can do before you try it yourself. I would love to go on an RV trip. Beach camping sounds magical, and I've never been to any state parks. I think it's important to gain a new perspective every once in a while. My perspective definitely changed when I moved from Lawrence, KS to New York City. Seeing every state has always been a goal of mine, and doing it in an RV could be a lot of fun and quite a challenge. Of course, I won't start with that, but it's always good to have a goal.

There's still a lot for me to learn. But that's the cool thing about RVing, there is always something new to learn, someone new to meet, somewhere new to go. See you on the road this year!
