Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is Distracted Driving Awareness month and Rear View Safety would like to take part in awareness.. The United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), California Highway Patrol (CHP), the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), and Impact Teen Drivers (ITD) have partnered together to help end distracted driving.

Dot has launched a national advertising campaign and law enforcement crackdown focusing on consequences of texting while driving, U Drive. U Text. U Pay.

The message is simple. Texting while driving kills. The campaign's call to action invites you to take a pledge against distracted driving. Download the pledge here.

Distraction.gov is the official government website for distracted driving. The new site features facts, videos and PSAs focusing on the reality of texting while driving.

Dot has led the effort against distracted driving. Since 2009, they have held 2 distracted driving summits, banned texting and cell phone use for commercial drivers and encouraged states to adopt tougher distracted driving laws.

OTS have also launched their own social media campaign, Silence The Distraction, while the California Highway patrol will be holding educational summits this month to spread information about the dangers of distracted driving.

According to Safecar.gov, texting is among the worst of all driver distractions, as it involves all three types of distraction, manual, visual, and cognitive. In 2014, 3,129 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in distracted driving crashes.
