According to the GHSA, nearly 30 Americans die every single day due to alchahol-related car accidents. That adds up to around 10,000 fatalities per year. Those in their early twenties are at especially high risk, and account for a third of the deaths.
Traditionally, driving under the influence has been combated by advertising campaigns, DUI checkpoints, and a variety of educational resources. Now, with the advent of new technology, there are even more options available. There are quite a few great apps which can help prevent these deadly accidents from...

Body camera technology has come a long way in recent years. What were previously large and cumbersome devices are now small and efficient - not only do they allow people in dangerous positions like police officers to feel safer, but they also record footage in stunning HD clarity to preserve for all time. The RVS-BC500 Body Camera with HD Recording in particular is a device that not only offers police body protection, but would also make a great addition to the item of thrill-seekers out there, as well.

Many drivers fail to understand the dangerous situation that they're creating just by failing to properly understand the rules of the road. Being aware of what other drivers are doing is certainly important every time you get behind the wheel of a car, but it isn't the "be all, end all" solution to road safety. Learning how to drive in precarious weather conditions can certainly save lives, but your responsibility as a driver doesn't stop there. Traffic signs of all types are hugely important, as they're designed to alert you to potentially dangerous situations that aren't as immediately obvious...

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google, a leader in efforts to create driverless cars, has run into an odd safety conundrum: humans.
Last month, as one of Google’s self-driving cars approached a crosswalk, it did what it was supposed to do when it slowed to allow a pedestrian to cross, prompting its “safety driver” to apply the brakes. The pedestrian was fine, but not so much Google’s car, which was hit from behind by a human-driven sedan.
Google’s fleet of autonomous test cars is programmed to follow the letter...

The truth behind the traffic accident statistics
To give you an idea of how dangerous traffic accidents can be, in the time it took me to write this story, 3121 people were killed in a car accident and 80,889 were injured. The rate of fatalities and serious injuries in traffic accidents is so high that getting in a car is one of the most dangerous things a human being can do in their lifetime.
It’s among the top 10 killers of human beings in the world. Car accidents are responsible for more deaths each day than any wild beast or natural catastrophe.
Car accidents kill more people than wars do...

The Federal Highway Administration wants to clear the air: Yes, state and local transportation agencies should use federal money to construct high-quality biking and walking infrastructure.
State and local DOTs deploy an array of excuses to avoid building designs like protected bike lanes. “It’s not in the manual” is a favorite. So is “the feds won’t fund that.”
Whether these excuses are cynical or sincere, FHWA wants you to know that they’re bogus.
Last week, the agency released a “clarifying” document that shoots down, on the record, some of the common refrains people hear from their...

Many people think that when you're talking about the topic of vehicle safety, you're limiting the discussion to the cars, trucks and other types of vehicles that populate our roads on a daily basis. While this is true, vehicle safety extends farther than just our streets - more specifically, boat safety is just as important of a topic that demands attention. Nearly 80% of all boaters who drown, for example, do so on smaller vessels that are less than 21 feet long. A few of the contributing factors to these types of accidents include operator inexperience, low visibility, excessive speeds and general...

Senator pushes bill to speed up ignition lock research
By Paula Katinas
Brooklyn Daily Eagle
Someday, a drunk person won’t be able to drive a car because the car won’t start. U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer said he wants someday to be here soon.
Schumer (D-New York) is pushing legislation called the ROADS SAFE Act that would speed up the development of technology to prevent drunk drivers from operating a car. The technology would disable a car’s ignition if the driver is found to be above the legal blood alcohol limit. It works with the use of sensors inside the auto that are equipped with touch or non-invasive...

When it comes to the future of transportation, the first thing that comes to mind is the possibility of flying cars. It's easy to imagine an urban utopia with vehicles that float through the air, swerving around buildings, reaching toward the heavens.
While Back to the Future: Part II wrongly predicted that we would have this technology in 2015, autonomous vehicles—which are currently being tested—may just be the stepping stone to making this a reality. Who would've thought robot cars would be our present?
No matter what side you stand on in the safety debate, even those who have concerns still...

Last month, the House passed an appropriations bill that would put bigger trucks with overworked drivers behind the wheel on the nation's highways. If that weren't irresponsible enough, the Senate is now considering legislation that would allow trucking companies to hire 18-year-old drivers for interstate routes and undermine safety on roads and railroads in numerous other ways.
Even by the low standards of the current Congress, these bills are egregious examples of faithfully saying yes to everything industry wants, in this case transportation companies. The Senate is expected to take up its disingenuously...

Every summer at KidsAndCars.org, we brace ourselves for the rising number of children who will die of heatstroke in vehicles. In the past 20 years, more than 670 U.S. children have lost their lives after unknowingly being left in a vehicle or gaining access to a vehicle on their own.

After working on this issue for more than 18 years, I can assure you that the absolute worst mistake any parent or caregiver can make is to think that this could never happen to them – and that they are not capable...

Oftentimes when people ask me why I am in a wheelchair, I tell them that I am one of the reasons that they raised the drinking age from 18 to 21.
I am a quadriplegic who was injured two weeks before my high school graduation in 1977 when I was drinking and driving. It was a single-car accident. And fortunately my only passenger was not badly injured.
I, on the other hand, was barely alive. I damaged my spinal cord at the C4-5 level, was in intensive care for two months and rehabilitation for six months.
As difficult as it was for me personally going through this completely life-changing experience...

We'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that an operational vehicle is no place for a selfie stick.
Car singalongs have been going viral a lot in the last year. There was that video of a cop singing "Shake It Off", James Corden performed a singalong skit with Jennifer Hudson and Mariah Carey, and even Taylor Swift got in on the action in November. But people, it has to stop. It has to stop now.
We're all for good singalongs — especially on a road trip — but the video above shows just how easily your viral video in the making can turn tragic.
Fortunately, everyone in this car was...
