What Do The 5 Most Accident Prone Cars Have In Common?

This list of car models with the most accidents won’t come as a surprise to many adults, especially parents with teen drivers.

While it doesn’t cover the deadlier aspect of car crashes, it certainly highlights the danger that comes with certain demographics being behind the wheel and what kind of sporty, compact, and (sometimes) fast cars they tend to favor.

Thanks to insurance company data, we can see which of these models are making up the majority of accident reports in 2021:

  • Subaru Impreza

Though it’s the most affordable model on this list with the highest overall safety ratings and safety features, the Impreza somehow defies all that with a 15.10% at fault accident rate--perhaps speaking to the types of drivers it attracts, more so than the car itself.

  • Hyundai Genesis Coupe

An affordable and somewhat powerful coupe, the Genesis not only looks the racy-sporty part, but plays it well, as its drivers’ at-fault accident rate at 15.29%.

  • Subaru WRX

This one’s not a surprise at all, since the WRX has a reputation for racing, speeding, and reckless driving violations. The compact sedan clocks in at 15.44% of its drivers with an at-fault accident rate.

  • Kia Stinger

What do you get when you combine a somewhat affordable sporty sedan with a 300-hp turbocharged engine? The second-highest at-fault accidents reported by its drivers, at 15.75%.

  • Scion FR-S

With a whopping 15.87% of its drivers reporting at-fault incidents, the marketing for the Toyota Scion was aimed directly at the group of drivers who you’d think would have the most accidents on the road: young, inexperienced drivers who wanted an affordable ride with a sporty look.
