7 Driving Maneuvers Ranked By Fear

Getting home safely; it’s something we take for granted, and that’s just fine.

We’re not ones to fear-monger, and making roads safer one safety-system at a time is how we’re able to take our minds off the dangers of driving.

Still, on average, around 40,000 people a year die  from crashes, and approximately another 3.3 million are seriously injured.

2021 hasn’t been kind to drivers either, with 21,450 people (a 17% increase from 2019) dead from motor vehicle accidents, according to early National Safety Council estimates.

So, it’s easy to empathize with these responses to a recent survey, when drivers were asked what driving maneuvers they feared the most:

  • Merging onto the highway (26%)
  • Backing up or reversing (19%)
  • Unprotected left turns (18%)
  • Other, more complex driving maneuvers (16%)
  • Passing other vehicles (8%)
  • Switching lanes (8%)
  • U-turns (5%)

Practicing on empty roads, concentrating on driving and reacting in the moment, staying focused yet calm with breathing techniques, and getting accustomed to your routes while expanding your boundaries are all practices which help improve maneuvering.

Investing in safety systems like backup cameras and sensors (if your car doesn’t already have them) helps maintain your peace of mind, not to mention contribute a helping hand to maneuvering.

Practice does mke perfect in this instance, and a little help from the right tech goes a long way. We’re not ones to let fear drive us.
