Ford Patents Car with Removable Electric Motorcycle

Ford's newest idea sounds straight out of a superhero or futuristic spy movie. It's an autonomous motorcycle that pops out of a car for final mile journeys. A patent from October reads that the “'multimodal transportation apparatus'  is intended to include, in particular, at least driving a vehicle to a location at which the vehicle can be parked, and then riding/driving away from the vehicle to a final destination using further transportation."

Inspired by Parking Problems and Carbon Emissions

The idea is inspired by spaces where engines may be restricted or areas with limited available and affordable parking. So, you find your parking spot in the car, then pop out the motorcycle and zip to the final destination. The seat of the motorcycle is the car's center console. Read the patent here.

I spent countless hours looking for parking while living in Washington Heights. I think that the idea of finding a spot in a less dense area, then riding a motorcycle to the apartment is brilliant.

In the end, it's just an idea. Remember Google's idea for a flypaper car? We may never see this contraption in action.

Time will tell, but i'd love to see a video of this in action.
