Today marks the 27th anniversary of our nation’s deadliest drunk driving crash. A repeat DUI offender with a .24 BAC drove the wrong way down the highway and slammed into a bus that was returning from a church trip. The fiery crash killed 24 children, the bus driver and two adult chaperones and injured 34 others.
This crash changed the way this country looked at the issue of drunk driving and spurred key reforms at the national and local level… and yet, 27 years later, there are still more than 10,000 people killed and hundreds of thousands more injured each year because of this 100% preventable crime.
Our hearts go out to all the victims and survivors and their loved ones on the anniversary of this terrible tragedy.
