The road is for everyone

Now that it's nicer outside I can finally start riding my bike more. Though it's been a bit rainy here (April showers), yesterday it was perfect. I was riding to the supermarket when I saw a car accident.

Here's what happened. A cyclist ran into a car that was turning left at a stop sign. The cyclist had stopped for the stop sign (it was a four way stop) and had the right of way. They weren't seriously hurt, but a bit scraped up and definitely in shock. The driver of the car stopped and was very apologetic. The cyclist was very upset, but calmed down a bit when he realized the other driver was apologetic.

Road Safety

What I saw was the best case scenario for an accident, no injuries. However, it's always important to be aware of all of your surroundings while driving, especially with more and more people going outside. The driver claimed not to see the cyclist, and that's a big problem.

I've seen the inverse as well, bikes zipping past stop signs while cars slam on the brakes to avoid a car accident. Traffic is always unpredictable. Focusing 100% on the road with no distractions is essential while driving.

Together we can make the road a safer place for everyone.
